IMI: Institute of the Motoring Industry

The IMI is the Sector Skills Council for the automotive industry.

History of the IMI

The Institute of the Motor Industry (IMI) was founded in 1920 to put in place new skills and knowledge standards for the growing automotive industry.

The IMI is designed to provide individuals in the motoring world access to the most relevant, up-to-date skills and qualifications. In the ever-growing industry, change is inevitable, and the IMI believes in aiding the progress of everyone for the better!

"The IMI’s mission is to support the global automotive workforce in achieving and maintaining professional competence and continuing professional development to service, repair and maintain vehicles to industry standards, including new automotive technologies such as EV and ADAS."

Our Relationship with the IMI

In 2011 Morelli Group sponsored Worldskills London which was held at the Excel Arena which kickstarted our relationship with the IMI. Morelli supplied equipment, paint and consumables for the automotive skills events competitors from all over the world.

After this huge Skills event passed successfully with our support and The IMI’s guidance a new partnership was formed to support the competitor heats that in 2012 were held around the UK and to supply goods for the finals.

In 2024 Morelli and Eyebox will host their first ever Worldskills heats for Automotive Refinish and Panel! This week will see competitors from around the UK competing to win their place into the UK Final to be held later this year.
